Claimed by many to have been the best world's fair ever held, the 1939-40 New York World's Fair had a visual style that made it particularly appealing to photographers. It offered new hopes to those who had come through the Depression, but was overshadowed in part by the war in Europe that would soon engulf the United States. This section of the site salutes this amazing event, which celebrated the themes "Building the World of Tomorrow with the Tools of Today" (1939) and "For Peace and Freedom" (1940).
