The 1964-1965 New York World's Fair

Cities Service World's Fair Band of America

Cities Service Band with Emmet Kelly Jr.

Led by conductor Paul Lavalle, the "Cities Service Band of America" had been a regular feature on radio and television for many years before they became the re-named "Cities Service World's Fair Band of America" for both years of the Fair. The band was a familiar sight as they traveled across the grounds on a special rolling bandstand, stopping for short performances along the way. Here clown Emmett Kelly Jr. joins in with them on a stop near the Kodak pavilion. (CD #35 Set 179 #58)

The band also played full performances each day. On the picture above the location for that day's concert is listed as the Pool of Industry; here they are performing at a bandstand somewhere near the Hawaii pavilion. The exact location is unknown but it appears to be on the Texas Pavilions grounds. (CD #25 Set 133 #14)
